Herbert Looking to Rebound in Memphis

This weekend, Sept. 26-28, Doug Herbert and the SnaponFranchise.com dragster will be in Memphis, Tenn., for the O'Reilly NHRA Mid-South Nationals at the Memphis Motorsports Park. With four races remaining in the six-race playoffs Herbert sits eighth in the Top Fuel point standings.

The Snap-on team is looking to recover from last weekend's troubles in Dallas, Texas. The dragster struggled to get down the track during qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday then dropped a cylinder during the first round of eliminations on Sunday, resulting in a tough loss to Brandon Bernstein. Co-Crew Chiefs Kevin Poynter and Keith Stewart have worked to identify the problem and feel prepared for Memphis.

Heading into the 21st race of the season Herbert has three semifinal and six quarterfinal appearances. His Round Win-Loss record for the season is 16-19. Racing at Memphis Motorsports Park in this event last year Herbert was runner-up. He beat Doug Kalitta, Whit Bazemore and Doug Foley to reach the finals but lost to Melanie Troxel in the last round. Herbert won at Memphis in 1999.

Quotes from Herbert:

"Last weekend was really rough but it's behind us now. Every team has weekends like that, where nothing seems to go right. I guess we should just be glad that we haven't had a lot of weekends like that this season, especially lately. Last season I had four DNQs and this season we've been able to qualify for every race so I do feel like we've improved from last year."

"The championship isn't out of our grasp yet but last weekend hurt us. It would help us out a lot if we could go rounds in Memphis. Just being in the playoffs is something to be proud of but I won't be satisfied until we're at the top of standings. I know my crew won't be either. We don't come to the track each weekend for a tea party, we come to win. I want it, the crew wants it and hopefully this weekend we'll make it happen."
