MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Federal Mogul Dragster driver Troy Buff dominated the Autozone Nationals presented by Pennzoil from wire to wire in his B&J Transmission assisted dragster, qualifying No. 1 and taking the win.

Buff qualified No. 1 with a 5.457 at 251.25 mph, ran a 5.444 in round one to take low e.t. of the event, and defeated new mph record holder Keith Stark's injected nitro dragster in the final. Buff, who won the event in 1998, took a holeshot victory when his TBR entry had motor problems and slowed to a 5.704 at 199.43 mph, but it still was enough to hold off Stark's quicker but later 5.667 at 260.56 mph.

Fellow B&J racer Shelly Howard qualified No. 3 and went to the semifinals where she was defeated by Buff. In round one, Howard took out another B&J heavy hitter Jeff Wilson, who had engine problems and slowed to a 5.801 at 216.93 mph. Howard streaked to her fastest run of the weekend, a strong 5.452 at 260.11 mph, that was the fastest blown pass of the weekend. In the semifinals, Howard encountered heavy tireshake that broke a framerail in her dragster, that let the coupler come out of the rearend, thus ending the run. The transmission was still intact.

In FMFC, Randy Fleming once again had a strong weekend in his B&J assisted Trans-Am. Fleming qualified No. 2 and went to the semifinals before losing to eventual winner Chuck Cheeseman.
