BROWN AND MATCO TOOLS TEAM REMAIN NINTH AT MEMPHIS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Sept. 27, 2008) -- Antron Brown raced his David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster to the No. 9 qualifying position Saturday afternoon at Memphis Motorsports Park. He has now qualified for 166 consecutive races, the second longest in the professional ranks (Angelle Sampey).

Brown entered the final day of qualifying for the 21st annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals in the ninth qualifying position after running 3.871-seconds on Friday evening at the Memphis track. On Saturday's first qualifying attempt, the Matco Tools car spun the tires near mid-track as Brown slowed to a lap of 4.922 seconds at 143.28 mph. On his final attempt of qualifying, Brown clocked the third quickest pass of the session by cruising the Matco Tools rail to a lap of 3.913 at 308.43. Only points-leader Tony Schumacher and No. 1 qualifier Brandon Bernstein were quicker.

"We made a really good run on that final pass," Brown said. "It's going to be tough on Sunday. (Larry) Dixon is no joke. This is a huge round, but I have all the confidence in the world in my Matco guys. I know Lee (Beard) and the boys will make the right call to help get us that win light."

In a marquee first-round match-up, Brown will do battle against two-time Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon, who qualified eighth Saturday at Memphis. The first round of Top Fuel eliminations begins at 11 a.m. (ET) on Sunday at Memphis Motorsports Park. Brown is 3-2 against Dixon in five races this season.
