FRAM Will Sponsor Carrier Boyz Racing, Cory McClenathan Top Fuel Team in 2005
JOLIET, Ill. (October 2, 2004) -- FRAM® announced today a multi-year sponsorship agreement beginning in 2005 with the Carrier Boyz Racing Top Fuel team and driver Cory McClenathan
Headquartered in Danbury, Conn., FRAM is a unit of Honeywell Consumer Products Group, which manufactures and markets FRAM automotive filters. The Honeywell Consumer Products Group also includes Prestone® antifreeze/coolant and car care products, Autolite® spark plugs and ignition wire sets and Holts® car care products.
Jeff Bye, corporate vice president, stated, "We are pleased to welcome Carrier Boyz Racing and Cory McClenathan to the FRAM and Honeywell Consumer Products Group family. The Carrier name is synonymous with motorsports and Cory Mac's performance stats speak for themselves. We look forward to 2005 as they begin their quest for the Top Fuel championship."
Carrier Boyz Racing is based in Bristol, Tenn. Learning the nuances of motorsports from their father, Larry Carrier, brothers Mark and Andy Carrier have flexed their own entrepreneurial talents in several different businesses, including ownership of drag race teams.
The brothers enjoyed much success throughout the 2000, 2001 and 2002 seasons campaigning a sportsman car with Brian Olson as driver. Racing a limited schedule in 2003, the pair joined the ranks as owners of a Top Fuel team. McClenathan joined Carrier Boyz Racing in 2004 with the team competing in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
"The future looks exciting with Honeywell onboard," said Andy Carrier. "Being with a Fortune 500 company means a lot to this program. This team has jelled and Cory McClenathan is one of the reasons for our success and he is one of the reasons that FRAM believes in Carrier Boyz Racing."
His brother Mark added, "This is a goal that our team has worked for over the past two years. Honeywell is a company that wants to win and that fits the philosophy of our team. They manufacture and market the highest quality products and we're proud to be associated with their organization."
McClenathan has been racing professionally since 1991. His performance portfolio to date includes: 28 career wins in 46 final rounds, including two victories at the prestigious Mac Tools U.S. Nationals ('96 & '99). In 2004, he has one win (Atlanta) in two final rounds. He defeated Clay Millican for the Atlanta win and was runner-up to Larry Dixon at Englishtown, N.J. He has earned 28 career No. 1 qualifying positions. He has career bests of 4.462 seconds and 332.10 mph. McClenathan has finished second in Top Fuel championship points four times -- 1992, 1995, 1997-98).
"The agreement with FRAM is a storybook ending to a year-long effort to give Carrier Boyz Racing the final ingredient to contend for the POWERade championship," said McClenathan. "I'm excited. The relationship between FRAM, Honeywell and Carrier Boyz Racing will be awesome. I can't wait to get out there next year and put FRAM in the winner's circle and contend for a Top Fuel championship.
