Battery Extender dragster driver to close out successful season.
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (Nov. 5, 2013) - Spencer Massey is looking to set a personal record at the Auto Club Finals at Pomona, Calif., the final NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event of 2013.
The Battery Extender Powered by Schumacher team has a chance to earn its fifth event of 2013, which would be Massey's career-best total. He claimed four Wally trophies in 2011 and 2012.
The Battery Extender team led by crew chiefs Todd Okuhara and Phil Shuler claimed their first 2013 win in April near Charlotte before winning the inaugural Epping, N.H., title in June. Win No. 3 came at Denver in July and the team scored its fourth in Brainerd, Minn., in August.
"I want to win Pomona for a lot of reasons," Massey said. "First of all it would be my fifth win of 2013 and I've never won five races in a season. I want to get my team in another winner's circle before we go into the off season. You have all winter long to say you won the last time you raced.
Massey sits No. 4 in NHRA Top Fuel standings, just four points behind No. 3 ranked Doug Kalitta and 40 points behind DSR teammate Antron Brown in second. Brown is the only driver within reach of catching points leader Shawn Langdon.
"We just want to go out and finish strong. We've had a great season and it would be cool to wrap it up with a win. The weather looks great and if it stays cool, it could be fast. This Battery Extender dragster loves to go fast. I'm just excited to go out to Pomona and see what we can do and finish this season on a high note."
