ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. -- On the eve of the 33rd Annual Matco Tools SuperNationals in Englishtown, N.J., Mark Whisnant and the RW Performance Race Team have announced the departure of Crew Chief Brad Jeter.
Jeter left the RW Performance team without warning after the Southern Nationals to pursue a driving opportunity with another Pro Stock team. The team is currently looking for a replacement for Jeter. In the interim Mark, Reid, and the crew will make the tuning decisions on the RW Performance Chevrolet Cavalier.
"We are disappointed that Brad chose to leave," said Whisnant, "but as a driver I can understand his desire to get back behind the wheel. We wish Brad the best in what ever he does, but this team is prepared to go on without him.
"For the last couple races we have struggled. As a result, we have asked for more and more input from the other team members. What we found was that we have a wealth of experience and knowledge here in our core group of employees.
"James, Brent, My brother Terry, and I have been doing this for a long time, and we have learned a thing or two along the way. This weekend, and until we find a replacement for Brad, we will tune the car ourselves.
"We are currently looking for a new crew chief, but we are going to take our time and find the right fit for our racing program. We have lots things coming up and whoever we hire will have a big job in front of them. It will take time to find a person capable of handling that responsibility. For now, we will tune the car ourselves.
"As far as our performance, we feel like we may have turned a corner in Atlanta. Every time we send the car down the track, we learn more about what it wants. I think what we have learned has set us in the right direction. Hopefully we can use that knowledge this weekend in Englishtown.
"It has been a long time since we have raced in Englishtown, and I would really like to be in the show come Sunday."
Qualifying at the 33rd Annual Matco Tools SuperNationals will begin on Friday May 17th and continue on Saturday May 18th. Eliminations will start at 11:00AM EST on Sunday May 19.
