Madison, Ill. (Pre-Race) - Mark Whisnant, and the RW Performance team will arrive in St. Louis for the 3rd Annual Sears Craftsman Nationals, riding the wave of a successful outing in Columbus, Ohio last weekend. After purchasing a new Jenkins power plant, the JW Performance team placed their Chevrolet S-10 fourth on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder.
"After our showing in Columbus, I am really looking forward to getting to St. Louis," said Whisnant. "We qualified well in Columbus. With every pass in Columbus the truck just kept getting better. This weekend in St. Louis we want to build on that. The worst run we had all weekend was in eliminations. That was a staging problem, which I will not let happen again.
"I have confidence going into St. Louis. We know that the motor that we have in the truck now has the horsepower to get us qualified, but we still have to be careful not to throw away any passes. We have learned in the past year that every run counts, and you can't afford to throw any runs away. The first run in qualifying is the most important. That first pass has to be good so you can get a baseline to work from. Once you have that baseline you can go from there. Then it just a matter of fine-tuning.
"Our game plan going into St. Louis is to take what we learned last weekend and build on it. Hopefully we can pickup where we left off. I feel good about racing in St. Louis after last weekend. I almost wish there was not going to be a break (six weeks between the Winston Showdown and the US Nationals). We are doing so well that I don't want to quit racing. So we plan on making St. Louis count."
Qualifying at the Third Annual Sears Craftsman Nationals in Madison, Ill. begins on Thursday June 22, and continues on Friday June 23. Eliminations will take place on Saturday June 24.
