White opens year with quarterfinal finish at Gatornationals.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Despite coming short of their goal of winning, Marc White and the Bars Leaks/Etterman Racing Top Alcohol Funny Car team feel their first race of the year was a success during this past weekend's Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. White made it to the quarterfinals where he lost to fellow Division 3 racer Chuck Cheeseman.

White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., qualified the Bars Leaks Firebird fifth in the field with a 5.738 at 248.34 mph. In round one, he defeated Mickey Ferro with a 5.694 at 251.60 mph. White gave Cheeseman all he could handle in their quarterfinal bout, but could not hold off Cheeseman's slightly quicker 5.654 at 251.18 mph with his own 5.687 at 248.96 mph.

"We just came up a little bit short against Chucky," said White. "We made some changed over the offseason, and they appear to be working because the car is running well and not tearing up any parts. We have a few areas we need to look into to see if we can't pick up a little more, but ultimately, we know this Bars Leaks car has a lot of room for improvement. We're pretty confident we can get there pretty quick."

White and the Etterman Racing team will head straight from Gainesville into their next race, this weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Memphis, Tenn. The team posted a runner-up finish there last year.

"We have a few areas of the car we are looking at right now," stated White. "We are going to take a hard look at them in Memphis to see if we can make a difference there. We'll just have to see how it goes, but we're pretty confident as a team of our chances next weekend."
