Two solid runs for Jeg

In the opening qualifying session Jeg Coughlin Jr made an impressive run. The yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order Chevy Cavalier posted a run of 6.837 at 201.61 mph and marched to the No. 2 position with authority.

"It feels good to make a solid run in the opening qualifying session anytime you do it," commented Jeg after his first run. "It really can set the tone for the weekend and create good momentum to build on. We just need to keep our focus as a team and do what we do best. If we do that everything else has the opportunity fall into place."

The second scheduled qualifying session was held under the lights with an enthusiastic crowd watching from start to finish. The reigning NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion improved his qualifying time and laid down a 6.830 at 201.43 mph. The run was good enough to put him in the No. 5 position with two opportunities to improve tomorrow (Saturday).

"The car really favored the left side of the groove in the right lane down track," said Jeg. "I was trying to gently drive the car back to the center of the groove and it just never made it back. We scrubbed off some ET in the back half and that might have moved the JEG'S machine closer to the top of the page. We will take what we learned today and work on improving tomorrow (Saturday)."
