Local Racer Wins Big at National Event at Heartland Park Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan -- Local drag racer John Dasher had never been in the winner's circle at any event until Sunday afternoon at Heartland Park Topeka. Dasher (Silver Lake, Kan.) captured his first career drag race crown, and managed to do so on his home track at the 16th Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Summer Nationals presented by Castrol GTX.

Dasher won a coveted Wally Trophy in the Super Street category, missing his dial in time by just eight one-thousandths of a second with a 10.908 second pass.

"This is just my second full year of drag racing, and to get my first win at a national event on my hometown track is unbelievable," Dasher said.

"Don Massey and Gary Stinnett really helped a lot on the car this weekend. My entire engine and transmission was built by Gary, and he deserves a lot of credit. Don dialed the car all weekend, and he was right on every pass."

The event was the ninth of 23 races on the NHRA POWERade Drag Race Series. Heartland Park will next host drag racing during a double bracket weekend scheduled for June 12 and 13.
