FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NHRA 'S PREMIERE EVENT - THE U.S. NATIONALS - TO BE TELEVISED LIVE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY OF SPORT Reading, Penn., Event Also Scheduled In September
Nashville, Tenn. -- July 27, 1995-- For the first time in history, the NHRA's premiere event, the U.S. Nationals, will be televised live on TNN: The Nashville Network. TNN Motorsports will present over six hours of exclusive coverage of drag racing from Indianapolis Raceway Park in Indianapolis on Labor Day Weekend. Hosted by Steve Evans, Dave McClelland, and Bob Frey, the telecasts will include coverage of NHRA Today, the Wax Shop Dash, the Big Bud Shootout, and the NHRA U.S. Nationals. "For four decades winning the U.S. Nationals has been the instant key to drag racing immortality," says Evans. "It is the Daytona 500 of NHRA Winston Drag Racing, and for the first time, fans will have a front row seat on the start line for the live coverage." TNN Motorsports' live coverage kicks off Saturday, September 2, with a special live edition of TNN's half-hour preview series NHRA Today at 2:00 PM (all times Eastern). At 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 2, live one-hour coverage of the all-star Wax Shop Dash will pit the top eight 1995 qualifiers of the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle competition, including last year's winner John Myers. Live episodes of NHRA Today will continue on Sunday, September 3, at 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM. Evans will bring the latest qualifying results and on-track driver interviews. TNN will present a special one-hour telecast on Sunday, September 3, at 5:00 PM of the Big Bud Shootout featuring the top eight qualifiers of 1995 competing in the NHRA Funny Cars, which travel the quarter-mile in five seconds at speeds of 300 mph. Al Hoffman captured his second Big Bud Shootout win last year driving the Western Auto/Slick 50 Pontiac. Live coverage of the U.S. Nationals will be Monday, September 4, at 4:30 PM. Television's first-ever live, three-hour coverage will include the semi-final and final round competition in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Bike professional classes. NHRA coverage in September concludes with the NHRA Pioneer Electronics Keystone Nationals from Reading, Penn., on Sunday, September 17, at 5:00 PM. Live episodes of NHRA Today from the track will telecast Saturday, September 16, at 3:30 PM and a special one-hour episode on Sunday, September 17, at 10:30 AM.
