Line Grabs Provisional Pole on Friday at Gatornationals
Jason Line and the Summit Racing team took a somewhat interesting road to the provisional pole at the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL. During the first session on Friday afternoon, they were forced to wait out a brief shower which interrupted the action and changed conditions. Even so, Line was able to post the third-quickest time of the round at 6.563 seconds with a top speed of 211.13 mph. Without any such distractions on his afternoon run, Line was able to improve on his previous performance, stepping up to a 6.545 second time with a speed of 211.46 mph to sit atop the field with two sessions remaining on Saturday, where the four-time Gatornationals champion looks to pick up the pace even further.
“For some reason, the Summit Racing team always seems to run well here in Gainesville,” said Line. “If we knew what it was, we’d apply it to some of the other tracks we go to. We’ve won the last three races here, and I’d certainly like to make it four in a row this weekend, and there would be no better place to start than from the No. 1 spot.
“The good news is that there is still room for improvement. For example, if I had done a little better job of driving in Q1, we could have been quickest for that session as well. It just shows what a great job our guys did of getting our car down the racetrack, especially considering how long it’s been since we saw conditions like this. Tomorrow we’ll come back and see what we can do to make even better runs and put us in a good position for race day.”
