LAS VEGAS, Nev. (April 7) - Mark Whisnant, driver of the PiranaZ Chevrolet S-10, has placed his truck in the tenth position on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder at the 2nd Annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas, Nev.=20

After struggling in the first two session, it was in the third session of qualifying that Whisnant drove his S-10 to a 7.649 / 176.65 mph to secure his place in Sunday's race.=20

"In the first session of qualifying we had new carburetors on the truck," said Whisnant. "They didn't work for us, so in round two we went back to our old ones. That got us behind, but we recovered in the third session. The fourth session was canceled because of the weather. We would have liked to have that last qualifying session to try and improve on what we have, but we will take it.

Here in Las Vegas the PiranaZ team debuted their new truck. The truck is all new and features a new exciting paint scheme, which has been the talk of the pits.

"The fan response to the new truck has been tremendous. We knew that the new paint job would be popular, but nothing like what we have seen. Not only has the new paint scheme generated a lot of curiosity in the pits, but it has also increased traffic at the T-shirt trailer, which makes Jeff (PiranaZ owner Jeff Sommers) real happy.

"I am also very happy with how the new truck is running. Especially after not running well in testing.=20

'In testing the truck did not perform, so I was a little hesitant to bring it here. But the way the truck has run this weekend has changed my mind. I think we haven't yet shown the full potential of this truck, or have seen what we have to work with. I knew we just needed more time with this truck. It is now starting to work for us, and that is encouraging.

"After not qualifying for the last two races, I have to say that it feels pretty good to be racing on Sunday."

Eliminations at the 2nd Annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals will take place on Sunday April 8 at 11:00 AM PST.
