WEATHER WIPES OUT FIRST DAY OF TOP FUEL QUALIFYING

LAS VEGAS, Nev., April 3 - Rain showers and high wind forced the cancellation of the first day of Top Fuel qualifying here Friday for the SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

As a result, U.S. Army Top Fuel driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher will try to make the race day show utilizing just two qualifying sessions on Saturday.

"There's not much you can do," said the most recent winner on the NHRA tour. "After the rain stopped, the wind kicked in and was really gusting (to more than 50 mph). It became a less than safe situation. Things should be a lot calmer tomorrow."

Schumacher, who will hit The Strip at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. PDT on Saturday, is hoping to build off of last week's win in Houston.

"We have a little momentum so we need to take advantage of that," he added. "We also have an opportunity to take over the top spot if we have a good Sunday."

Schumacher came into the SummitRacing.com Nationals holding second-place in the standings, 20 points behind Antron Brown.
