Dave Connolly sees improved outing for Nitro Fish Dodge at Las Vegas

Dave Connolly returns to the driver's seat of Kenny Koretsky's Nitro Fish Dodge Friday with aspirations of grabbing one of the 16 Pro Stock starting berths for Sunday's SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Connolly's Cagnazzi Racing Chevy Cobalt has been idled by current economic woes, so he welcomed the opportunity to get in some seat time when Koretsky asked him to drive. He made three qualifying laps last weekend at Houston in his first 2009 Pro Stock race, but failed to qualify.

"We get to race at Las Vegas again and have some fun," said Connolly. "We definitely want a little better showing for our second performance. I think we can get in the show this time around. I'm just grateful to get another shot at it.

"Eddie (Guarnaccia, crew chief) has been working hard to get the car to run better numbers."

Connolly drove into The Strip's winner's circle in 2005 and was runner-up in 2006.

Koretsky, like Connolly, dislikes being a Sunday spectator . . . but he does enjoy visiting Las Vegas. "I usually have a good time here, whether or not our car runs well, but I hate not qualifying," said the popular team owner. "I'm looking forward to having all my focus here on Dave and Tony Pedregon -- our Nitro Fish team drivers.

"Our other drivers, Matt Smith, who is the Pro Stock Motorcycle point leader) and Top Fuel driver Clay Millican, aren't here this weekend."
