LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Sunday, April 8) - Greg Stanfield, driver of the DBP Enterprises Chevrolet S-10, came in the today's eliminations at the 2nd Annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals qualified number 1.
The consistency in qualifying that earned Stanfield the pole position carried over today as he put together a string of 7.54 runs, which took him all the way to the final round.=20
On the way to the final round Stanfield defeated Matt Rhoades, Brain Self, and Jeff Gracia.
The final round found Stanfield pitted against Winston Champion Bob Panella. In the semi-finals Panella ran the low ET of the meet of 7.531 which caused Stanfield to loose lane choice for the final.=20
During the coarse of this weekend's event many within the Pro Stock Truck class commented on the unevenness of the lanes. The right lane has a large bump on the top end. Many competitors had some difficulty with their trucks loosing traction when they encountered the bumps. The loss of lane choice spelled the end of Stanfield day.=20
When the light went green Stanfield took the advantage at the starting line. He was out in front of Panella until he reached approximately 1000 feet. As he reached the bump he shifted into fifth gear. At that point the truck lost traction and Panella moved past him to take the win. Panella ran a 7.554 / 178.19 mph to Stanfield's 7.579 / 178.83 mph.
"Hey we gave it all we had," said Stanfield. "Bob got us this time, but I'll tell you what, we are not giving up. We are going to keep biting at his heals until we win. We plan on being Bob's worst nightmare when we get back to Gainesville.
"We are going home and we are going back to work. Bob had a little on us this weekend, but he won't for long. We are going back to the shop and work on everything. We will find some more and next time we meet it is going to be our day."
The next stop on the Pro Stock Truck schedule will be the Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta, Ga. May 3-6.
