Langdon hoping to once again lead the way in Vegas

LAS VEGAS (April 13) -- Top Fuel driver Shawn Langdon arrived at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for last spring's SummitRacing.com NHRAS Nationals as a wide-eyed rookie. By the end of the race, he had seemingly come into his own, taking top qualifying honors in his Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster and recording his first semifinal finish.

"Vegas was where things really got started for us," Langdon said. "We got on a great streak of semifinal appearances and the car really started running with the top guys from that race on. There were lots of times we had low ET of the round or the race after we got that first one at The Strip.

"I think a track like Vegas really plays to our favor. You're not going to see 3.7s there and that's good because we're not a 3.7-second car. But we are a solid 3.8-second car. The teams that have been running 3.7s are going to have to start de-tuning their cars now because we're moving into the summer months. We should be able to just keep on doing what we've been doing. That's why we did well in the middle months last season."

Langdon is hoping history repeats itself, both at this weekend's race and throughout the coming months.

"We've been making little improvements here and there and the car's responding," Langdon said. "One of the benefits of the Countdown to 1 is it allows you to try things earlier in the year. That's kind of what we've been doing at the first few races, although we're still running as hard as we can every pass.

"The pack is kind of splitting in half in the points standings and we want to make sure and stay in the top half so these races coming up are huge."

No matter what, Langdon knows his Lucas Oil/Speedco group will enjoy its trip to Sin City.

"Vegas is a fun place to go," he said. "There are great restaurants and clubs to go to and I always enjoy playing cards. It's the perfect place to spend some down time with the guys and just hang out."
