HAGAN EXPERIMENTS, TAKES SHELOR.COM DODGE TO NO. 12 IN VEGAS QUALIFYING

LAS VEGAS (April 4, 2009) - Taking advantage of having made the field in Friday's only Funny Car qualifying session for the NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Rookie-of-the-Year contender Matt Hagan and the Shelor.com Dodge Team made some test runs today, and ended up No. 12. Only three rounds of qualifying were run, as Friday's second session was cancelled due to strong winds.

His 4.185-second pass at 301.33 mph was good for No. 6 on Friday but dropped him to 12th following two tire-smoking passes of 6.814/90.76 and 6.960/95.64 today.

"We've used this race to kind of experiment with a little bit everything, trying to run faster," said Hagan, 26, who runs a 500-acre Angus Cattle farm in Virginia. "We decided we would take those weekends when we're already in the field and test some things, because we're limited to the amount of days we get to test during the season.

"It's huge to be able to come out here and get in the show off the first hit and then go play and try some new stuff. It didn't work out for us this weekend, but I'm sure Tommy (DeLago, crew chief) learned a lot from qualifying and what to do next. I'm confident he's got a game plan coming up in the morning."

Hagan faces Bob Bode in the first round of Sunday's eliminations.
