LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW performance Chevrolet Cavalier, will enter eliminations at the 4th annual Summitracing.com Nationals in Las Vegas, Nev. holding the sixth position on the eliminations ladder.
It was during the night session on Friday that Whisnant wheeled his Cavalier to a 6.909 / 198.15 mph to guarantee his a place in Sunday's elimination.
"I feel pretty confident going into tomorrow's eliminations," said Whisnant of Stockbridge, Ga. "We made good runs and have had decent numbers out of both lanes this weekend. We have been running very well down low, so we will give up a little bit on the top end. We used the last session to do some fine-tuning in hopes of picking up the top end, but even without that, I feel like we have the equipment to win this race tomorrow.
"It feels good to be in the top half of the field. In the past Las Vegas has traditionally been a one-lane racetrack, but that has not been the case this weekend. I do not think lane choice will be a factor until the later rounds tomorrow. Hopefully we will be around later in the day to worry about lane choice.
"I am very happy with the way this RW Performance team is coming together. It took a little while for my crew chiefs, Gary Pearman and Markus Svensson, to get acquainted with the our equipment. Now that they have a good handle on what we have, they are making the most of it, and it is showing in our performance.
Whisnant's opponent in Round 1 will be Number 11 qualifier Taylor Lastor.
"You never know about Lastor. You cannot take anyone in this class for granted especially Taylor. Really, we don't care who is in the other lane. We will run our own race tomorrow. We always try to get as much as we can out of the car every round, no matter who we line up against. Tomorrow will be no exception."
Gary Pearman Co-Crew Chief on the RW Performance Chevrolet commented Whisnant's chance in tomorrows Summitracing.com Nationals.
"Tomorrow we will probably see the same conditions we have here today," said Pearman. "I am please with how the car moved and reacted here this afternoon, so I believe we are ready there.
"As far as lane choice goes, historically the right lane will go away during eliminations, but will come back in the later rounds. This is not a real concern to me, because I have one hell of a driver, and I'm not just saying that. If we get stuck in the right lane, I am confident that Mark can drive through what ever the racetrack throws at us. I think we're ready."
Eliminations at the 4th annual Summitracing.com Nationals will begin at 11:00 AM PST on Sunday April 6.
