Consistent Performance Places KJ Fifth on Friday in Las Vegas

Qualifying for the SummitRacing.com Nationals got underway on Friday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Cobalt Racing team continuing to be among the best in the Pro Stock division. Displaying the competitive consistency that has kept him near the top of the POWERade points standings, Johnson recorded two elapsed times within one thousandth of a second of each other, with his 6.730-second, 204.63 mph best earning him the provisional fifth starting position. However, with two attempts remaining, KJ set his sights on moving up.

"I'm pretty happy being fifth on Friday night after making two runs within a thousandth of a second of each other, but we obviously aren't satisfied unless we're number one. Fortunately, I believe we have the concept to get the job done in the morning, when we'll be back in the left lane, which is the preferred side for Pro Stock.

"It hasn't been really hot yet, but we're pleased with our ACDelco Cobalt's performance so far. The consistency we've shown is really good, and considering we ran in the right lane tonight, we were pretty decent. After what we did in Houston, I'm confident I know how to improve it in the morning, and think we have enough power to get the pole. We'll have to wait and see."
