Humphreys Comes Close at Las Vegas; Plans on Test Sessions before Atlanta Race

Justin Humphreys and new Pro Stock engine supplier Richard Maskin came close to qualifying the Knoll-Gas Energy Pontiac GTO for the SummitRacing.com Nationals in their first NHRA national event as a team. They missed it by five-thousandths of a second, not a bad outing for new crew, but not what they want.

"It was an exciting weekend," said Humphreys, who ran a weekend-best of 6.799 seconds. "It was a new learning curve for us. Now we need to test so we can get to where we want to be. We'll be going to Valdosta (Ga.) next week to test."

But first, the car went to Maskin's Detroit-area shop for a thorough check up.

"We are looking forward to going to Atlanta," added Humphreys, of Monrovia, Md. "We will be better-prepared than we were at Las Vegas."

Back-to-back races at Atlanta (April 27-29) and St. Louis (May 4-6) are next up on the POWERade Series schedule.
