Haas looking for breakthrough weekend for Team Haas
Las Vegas - - Jerry Haas, from Fenton, Mo., team owner for the two identically prepared Chevy S-10 Pro Stock Trucks driven by Matt Rhoades and Charlie Greco, predicts a breakthrough weekend for Team Haas.
"We have been chasing one thing after another since the opening race in Pomona. When we get one problem solved, another jumps up and bites us. I finally feel all those bad things are behind us and this will be the weekend that we've been looking for since the season began," said Haas.
"The only new element will be the altitude here in Vegas. But we've been here before and qualified well. I drove here last year and qualified in the top half of the field. We'll use that tune up as a starting point, then make the necessary adjustments that the track and weather call for," concluded the award winning chassis builder and former driver.
Charlie Greco, from St. Davids, Penn., feels like Haas. "We've been close, oh so close. At the last race in Houston everything was coming together. A few additional adjustments and we might have had the opportunity to take out the number one qualifier.
"I'm real excited about our potential for this weekend. The whole team is positive. It will only take one race to get our season turned around," said Greco.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Rhoades, from nearby Lake Havasu City, Ariz. "I've been looking forward to this race since joining Team Haas because The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is what I consider my home track. Lake Havasu City is only about two hours from Las Vegas," said Rhoades, echoing the enthusiasm of the entire team.
"I want to do good in front of my family and friends," continued Rhoades. "My co-crew chiefs Jimmy Gunther and Bob Shawcross have this Chevy S-10 truck running good numbers (times and speed). I feel this could not only be a breakthrough weekend for Team Haas, but could be the weekend I get my first professional qualifying position in the top 16. I certainly would like to do that here in Las Vegas."
In the NHRA Winston Pro Stock Truck point standings, entering this event, Greco is 14th and Rhoades is tied for 20th.
