Another semifinal round appearance for Jason Line
LAS VEGAS (April 5, 2006) -- For the second consecutive race, Jason Line advanced to the semifinal round at the NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals which were held this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Line defeated Dave Howard in the opening round, won on a holeshot over Mark Pawuk in the quarterfinals before squaring off against Kurt Johnson (KJ) in the semifinals.
In the semifinal, Line had problems at the starting line in his KB Racing Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO. Johnson gained an advantage at the green and used that advantage to turn back Line. At the finish strip, it was Line in 6.862 seconds. KJ crossed in 6.864 seconds. Johnson advanced to the final and took the event win defeating Dave Connolly.
"It could have been worse, but I should have done a better job on the light in the semis," said Line. "We had a piece of foam get into the carburetor and it flooded over on the starting line. I was struggling to keep the car running - that made it exciting anyway. I was having trouble doing the burnout and staging, but all in all it could have been worse and the Summit Racing Pontiac GTO ended up making a decent run in the semis.
"We're looking forward to Bristol and so is Greg (Anderson). Greg won his first race there and it's also one of my favorite places to compete. We get to go back and work in the shop for a couple of weeks and then it's off to the next race.
"We made a nice jump in the points, but you want to win the race, that's what we come here for. We missed an opportunity today. Anytime you outrun somebody you should beat them. But Kurt's (Johnson) good and fun to race, and anytime you race those guys you have to definitely be on the ball. Otherwise, you're going home and that proved it right there. We gave him a decent run though."
Line moved up to fourth in the POWERade Pro Stock point standing and now has 297 points. His teammate Greg Anderson leads the points in his KB Racing Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO. Anderson has 369 points, 40 ahead of Mike Edwards in second.
After a two-week break, Line and his KB Racing LLC team head to Bristol, Tenn. for the sixth running of the O'Reilly Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway, April 28-30.
The elimination show of the seventh annual SummitRacing.com Nationals, which aired Sunday night (April 9), repeats on ESPN2 early Tuesday morning (April 11) from 2:30-4:30 a.m. Television times are Eastern Time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. Check local listings.
