Zizzo Racing Betting on Successful Weekend at The Strip
LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. - It has been a season of positives for the family-owned Zizzo Racing NHRA Full Throttle Series Top Fuel team. TJ Zizzo, pilot of the PEAK/Herculiner rail, has set personal bests in both ET (3.851, Indy) and top speed (314.24 mph, Indy), as well as his highest-ever qualifying position (sixth, Concord). He has also qualified for every event he has entered this season (Houston, Atlanta, Joliet, Indy, Concord).
This weekend at The Strip at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Zizzo plans to continue his successful 2010 season by making the show for Sunday's NHRA Las Vegas Nationals' eliminations despite having never raced there.
"Never been there to race," said the 35-year-old Zizzo from his shop in suburban Chicago. "Been there to party, been there to gamble, but have never, ever been there to race. Looking forward to it, there's no doubt in my mind that Vegas will be a big race for us. First time we'll pull (our hauler) that far west to go out there and race.
"With SEMA being there after Vegas, there will be a lot of people there, plus our marketing partners like PEAK will be there, so it'll be exciting to be there and we'll try to do the best we can."
Considering only a handful of Top Fuel drivers have visited the Winner's Circle this season (Larry Dixon, Tony Schumacher, Cory MacClanathan, and Doug Kalitta) and the fact Zizzo has never raced in the desert, the team still has high expectations for this weekend.
"Expectations for Vegas, they're getting higher and higher after every race," Zizzo said. "Qualifying in the top half of the field would be wonderful and the expectation now is to go there and win. It sounds scary and I know it sounds like a crazy thought, but if you don't think positive thoughts, you're not going to do well."
Race fans will have an opportunity to meet TJ and several of the biggest names in the NHRA Full Throttle Series Thursday on Freemont St. at an autograph session and meet-and-greet slated to run 6-8 p.m. On Sunday (Halloween), Zizzo Racing is inviting fans to come to their pit in costume to trick-or-treat starting at 9 a.m. A costume contest will be held at approximately 10 a.m. with the winner receiving an autographed PEAK mini-helmet and an opportunity to have their picture taken with TJ and the members of Zizzo Racing.
