Team Kalitta seeking Las Vegas jackpot with a win; Doug Kalitta rolls with rockers KISS in special paint scheme
Las Vegas, Nev., Oct. 22, 2003 -- Team Kalitta drivers Scott and Doug Kalitta are betting on more big numbers from their respective Kalitta Motorsports Top Fuel dragsters this weekend as the 22nd of 23 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series national events takes to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Oct. 23-26.
For the third consecutive year, national speed record (333.00 mph) holder Doug Kalitta's Mac Tools dragster will display a special paint scheme for the event. Rock n' Roll legends KISS will again take rides down the quarter-mile as painted spectators on the body panels of Doug's rail.
"Our Mac Tools/Kalitta Motorsports dragster team is excited to be partnering with KISS again in 2003," Kalitta said. "It's great to see the fans' reactions to the racecar and know that you are part of something special. Just like our Kalitta Motorsports team, KISS have secured their legacy through the years by dedicating themselves to being the best. It would be incredible to win in Las Vegas with them on board."
Doug's cousin and teammate Scott Kalitta hopes to make some noise of his own in his Mac Tools/Jesse James dragster in the form of a visit to The Strip's winner's circle. After a final round appearance his last time out in Dallas, Tex., Scott likes his odds of winning his first trophy since his return to competition earlier this year in Indianapolis.
"We are making some great laps," Scott said. "My dad (crew chief and team owner Connie "Bounty Hunter" Kalitta) is really making big horsepower in our car and in Doug's car. I am having the most fun I have ever had in a racecar. It would be a blast to get a win this weekend, especially in Las Vegas."
Scott and Doug will begin their quests for a Las Vegas win when the first of four Top Fuel qualifying sessions begins at approximately 4:00 p.m. Friday.
