TROXEL LEADS GET SCREENED AMERICA PRO MOD SERIES QUALIFYING

LAS VEGAS -- Melanie Troxel was quickest in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series Friday at the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals.

Troxel powered her In-N-Out Burger '68 Camaro to a leading performance of 5.925 seconds at 243.94 mph to lead the 16-car field at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"You can't ask for a better start," Troxel said. "To come out and put up a number that's six-hundredths clear of the field affords you the opportunity to really get after it in round two, which is exactly what we did. It ended up that we weren't quicker but we were fast again and not many cars got down the track, so we're really happy."

Series points leader Von Smith qualified fourth in his Barwa/Al-Anabi Racing '68 Camaro with a 5.984 at 242.06. Smith, who leads second place Danny Rowe by 90 points, can clinch the inaugural Get Screened America Pro Mod Series world championship tomorrow by taking the tree in the first round of eliminations at the final of 10 races in NHRA's newest national touring series.

Rowe is qualified sixth in his Sterling Bridge '67 Camaro. Indy winner Brad Personett is second in the lineup with a 5.945 at 241.37 and Roger Burgess is holding down the third spot with a 5.984 at 242.89 in his ProCare Rx '68 Camaro.

The final Get Screened America Pro Mod Series qualifying session is Saturday at 11:15 a.m. and the first round of eliminations begins later that day at 4:30 p.m.
