Stivers No. 4 in Vegas heading into Sunday

LAS VEGAS (October 30, 2010) - Rick Stivers, driver of the Trane Air Conditioning Stratus Pro Mod, was in stellar form at the NHRA/GSA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, blasting to the No. 4 qualifying position at the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

After shaking the tires on his first qualifier Friday, he held the No. 9 spot overnight on the strength of a 6.015-second pass at 238.93 mph. Saturday afternoon, Stivers upped the ante with a 5.95-second run that shot him to number four.

"We've got this car running strong," Stivers said. "With each round it just keeps getting better and better, and the great thing is that we've got more left in it.

"It's really important for us to go rounds tomorrow so we can move up into the top ten. We're a round-win out, and we need to get past the first round to make a move."

Stivers is paired with No. 14 Ed Hoover in round one, scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Sunday morning. Hoover's best run in qualifying was 6.058-seconds.

"On paper, we're a tenth ahead of Hoover, but it's unknown how the track will be that early in the morning. I know Brad [Anderson, crew chief] will have us loaded for bear, so I'll just do my best on the tree and see what happens," Stivers said.
