DIXON FINISHES FOURTH IN TOP FUEL ORDER AT THE STRIP

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 22, 2005) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon drove his Miller Lite dragster to the No. 4 qualifying position Saturday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as qualifying concluded at the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals.

In the first round of the Top Fuel Shootout, Dixon and opponent Doug Kalitta used similar reaction times, but the Miller Lite/Ameriquest rail spun the tires and slowed to a 7.911-second pass, while Kalitta breezed to a 4.600 at 325.06 to score the win. The run also counted as Dixon's third qualifying attempt. On his fourth and final qualifying pass of the weekend, Dixon drove the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil car to a 4.676-second performance.

"We should be the fourth or fifth pair of cars, which allows us to be further back as far as the pairings go and that will give them (Dick LaHaie and Don Bender) a chance to see what the other cars are doing," Dixon said. "We're racing Scott (Kalitta) for the third straight race, so we need to go out there and make a good run if we want to win."

For the third consecutive event, Dixon will match up against Scott Kalitta in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations, which begin at 11 a.m. (PT) on Sunday at The Strip at LVMS. Dixon is 10-14 in his career versus Kalitta. Dixon is a four-time winner at the Las Vegas track.
