LAS VEGAS (Oct. 23, 2005) - Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon drove his Miller Lite dragster to a first-round finish Sunday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway during the fifth annual ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals.

After qualifying fourth on Saturday at The Strip, the 38-time NHRA winner was paired against Scott Kalitta in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations for the third consecutive race. Dixon used a slight holeshot to get the jump at the start, but soon into the run the Miller Lite/Ameriquest rail spun the tires and Dixon slowed to a 5.915-second pass. Kalitta breezed to a 4.591 seconds, 325.61 mph pass to earn the trip to round two.

"NHRA told us that they prepped the track differently this morning and from the amount of cars that smoked the tires it became a factor," Dixon said. "We were one of casualties. We've got a great car and we're a great team and we didn't get to show it."

Dixon remains second in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel standings. The next NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series is event is the 41st annual Auto Club Finals, Nov. 3-6, at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif. It is the final event on the 2005 NHRA schedule.
