Humphreys Runs Well on Way to Quarterfinal Finish; Move to Right Against Stanfield Slows Pontiac GTO

LAS VEGAS, October 28, 2007 -- Justin Humphreys made an impression on a packed house at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. Even his never-give-up losing effort to Greg Stanfield in Sunday's ACDelco Nationals quarterfinals was worthy of appreciation.

Humphreys, nearing the completion of his first NHRA Pro Stock season, began with a personal-best No. 4 qualifying effort. He was the provisional leader after Friday's two runs and had a weekend best of 6.740 seconds.

Humphreys easily got by Larry Morgan in the first round, his RaceRedi Motorsports/Knoll-Gas Energy Pontiac GTO winning with a time of 4.749 seconds at 204.32 mph to Morgan's 6.777 at 203.71. But the race wasn't that close because Humphreys had a .022-second reaction to a .081.

In the quarterfinal round, the blue Pontiac made a move to the right, but Humphreys drove to the finish line with a time of 6.866 at 202.97 to Stanfield's 6.809 at 203.00.

"We started the weekend good in qualifying and had a stout first run Sunday," said Humphreys, "but the sun made the track hotter for the second round. The clutch pulled the tires up and they shook and the car went to the right. I think we showed what we are capable of doing performance-wise. Now we are looking forward to going to Pomona (Calif.) next week."
