He misses perfect start by slim margin

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 2, 2008 -- Justin Humphreys came within three thousandths of a second of a perfect reaction time in the first round of Sunday's ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Unfortunately for Humphreys, that was the margin by which his RaceRedi Motorsports Pontiac left the starting line too early, turning on the red light and giving Greg Anderson the automatic win. Anderson recorded an elapsed time of 6.722 seconds at 205.22 mph to Humphreys' 6.743 at 204.73.

"We knew we had to take a shot at it running Greg," Humphreys explained, adding that the team had installed a new engine before the run. "We had no runs with this motor. It's definitely better than the other motor we had, but we didn't know what to do with the clutch and transmission, so we just threw our best guess at it. It definitely picked up."

The season concludes at Pomona, Calif., Nov. 13-16.
