Line Determined to Do Whatever it Takes in Las Vegas
Mooresville, N.C., October 27, 2010 -- Summit Racing teammates Jason Line and Greg Anderson have often stated that their operation is one team racing two cars, with no preference given to either entry, a philosophy best exemplified by the fact that each driver tunes the other's race car. It is an approach that has served them well, with both winning races and championships.
Coming into this weekend's NHRA Las Vegas Nationals in Las Vegas, NV the talented tandem is in the Top Five in the 2010 Full Throttle Pro Stock championship standings, with Line, sitting fourth, looking to do whatever is necessary to assist his teammate who currently leads the division, while simultaneously working to better his own standing. It is a remarkable exercise in multitasking that the 2006 champion is more than ready to tackle.
"Every year, this Summit Racing team's primary goal is to win the championship, whether it's myself or Greg," said Line. "Therefore, with Greg leading the points coming into Las Vegas, I need to do everything I can to help him stay there, including beating any of the other contenders should we happen to race.
"However, it's also important for this team that I finish as high in the points as I can, so if Greg doesn't win the race for some reason, then I need to step in and get the job done. Fortunately, throughout the last three races in the Countdown I have a very fast and consistent Summit Racing Pontiac, so we're more than capable. What I haven't had is an overabundance of racing luck, some of which is our fault. Hopefully this weekend we can get that turned around and make sure one of our cars ends up in the winner's circle."
Line and the entire KB Racing crew's morale will receive a most welcome boost this weekend, as team owner and friend Ken Black will make his long-awaited return to the track at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This will mark Black's first appearance of the season following a stroke last December, with his tireless efforts throughout his rehabilitation making a distinct impact on his team, with every employee making the trip to the Nevada desert to witness and celebrate his return.
"With the exception of a select few events, Ken Black has been to every race in my Pro Stock career until this year," said Line. "So, as you can imagine, it's been rather strange not having him out there with us this season. We've been in constant contact with him throughout the year, but it's just not the same, so it's going to be a lot of fun to welcome him back. He is a great man, and just by being there, I know he will definitely put everybody in a good mood.
"Seeing everything he has gone through and how hard he's fought to make it back is a really big deal, and an inspiration to every member of this Summit Racing team. His experience has taught us all to appreciate the little things, and to make the most of every moment. I know there isn't one person on this crew who wouldn't do everything possible to mark his return by winning this race. He certainly deserves it."
