Line Marks Team Owner's Return, Places Fourth on Friday in Vegas
Jason Line and his Summit Racing team welcomed team owner Ken Black back to the track during Friday's first day of qualifying for the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals in Las Vegas, NV. It was Black's first appearance at an event following a lengthy recovery from a debilitating stroke last December, and served to lift the team's spirits.
At the same time, Line put a smile on his team owner's face by continuing to excel in qualifying, opening with a solid 6.678-second, 206.54 mph run, following that effort with the third-quickest pass in the evening session at 6.695-seconds, 206.92 mph. Sitting fourth with two attempts remaining, he was cautiously optimistic about his chances for the rest of the weekend.
"Today has been a really fun day just because Ken was here," said Line. "It was great to have him back at the track. This is the happiest I have seen this KB Racing crew all year. With him here things felt like they had gone back to normal for us, which is a very good thing. Best of all, I know he's excited too. His smile is as big as I've ever seen it, which helps all of us.
"For the most part, things also went pretty well today for the Summit Racing team on the track. Of course, you're never satisfied unless you're at the top of the page, but we have had worse days, especially in the last few years here on The Strip. I'm pretty certain it didn't hurt that we came out here last week and tested. We made two decent runs, but definitely have room for improvement. That honkin' Hemi (note: provisional No. 1 qualifier Allen Johnson drives a Dodge) may have showed us the way today, but it's not over yet. I think there's some more left in our Summit Racing Pontiac, so we'll just keep digging. I'm excited about the rest of the weekend."
