No. 2 qualifier Line upset at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (October 28, 2007) -- Jason Line's day came to a quick end in the opening round at the seventh annual ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals.

Line, who qualified No. 2, was turned back by No. 14 qualifier V. Gaines.

Line, up against Gaines, saw Gaines take an advantage of .023 seconds at the starting line. Line then tried to reel in Gaines. The reigning NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Champion drove his KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac to an elapsed time of 6.749 seconds at 204.94 mph. Gaines crossed The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway finish line in 6.769 seconds, .0036 seconds ahead of Line.

"We came to help Greg (Anderson, teammate) but didn't do the job we came to do," said Line, following the first round loss. "Since he (Greg) won his match up, we'll now turn our attention to helping out Greg get ready for the rest of this race.

"Next we'll take our Summit Pontiac to Pomona (Calif.) and try to once again run interference for Greg in the last race for the championship."
