LAS VEGAS (October 17, 2005) -- Chip Ellis, and Matt Smith, aboard their G Squared-prepared and owned, S&S-powered Pro Stock Buells, return to action at this weekend's Fifth annual NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Pro Stock Motorcycles last raced at Maple Grove Raceway, near Reading, Penn., in mid-September and George Bryce, who along with George Smith are the two Gs behind G Squared Motorsports, feels the time off worked to the team's advantage.

"Our plans call for us to be a factor at both Vegas and Pomona," said Bryce. "We tested recently and both Chip (Ellis) and Matt (Smith) did well, as did the bikes. We ironed out some of their reaction time issues and are expecting to run even better at Las Vegas than we did at Reading.

"The guys at S&S Cycle have been supplying more and more power and it showed at Maple Grove. We plan to make better use of that power at Vegas.

"Chip won this event last year, the first win for Chip driving the G Squared S&S Buell, and says that he can't wait to get on the Vegas quarter-mile again. He has repeatedly said that The Strip at Las Vegas (Motor Speedway) is his favorite track.

"Matt has his deal signed up and will be at Vegas and Pomona. His G2 Red Line Oil/Skull Gear/Torco Racing Fuels Buell, which is actually the bike Chip rode to the win last year, is still running well.

"Both Chip and Matt should be in the thick of thing this weekend.

"Finally, congratulations are due Chip, who has been nominated for the 2005 Automobile Club of Southern California Road to the Future Award, which annually recognizes the top rookie competitor in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series"

Ellis, along with three other drivers, Jack Beckman (Top Fuel), Erica Enders (Pro Stock) and Robert Hight (Funny Car), representative of all four pro categories, have been selected as the nominees for the 2005 Automobile Club of Southern California Road to the Future Award. The winner of the prestigious award receives a $20,000 monetary prize and sleek ceremonial trophy and will be announced during the NHRA's annual championship awards ceremony on Monday, Nov. 7 at the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Ellis, who will ride the G Squared S&S Buell, enters the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals, the 14th of 15 races on the season-long NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, No. 6 in the POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle point standings with 751 points, only 35 points out of the top five. Meanwhile, Smith, aboard the G2 Red line Oil/Skull Gear/Torco Race Fuels Buell, enters this event No. 12 in the point standings with 523 points.

QUALIFYING: Qualifying gets underway for both Ellis and Smith, aboard their G Squared Buells, with two Pro Stock Motorcycle sessions scheduled for 12 noon and 3:30 p.m. each day on Friday and Saturday. The 16 quickest qualifiers begin their quest for the Pro Stock Motorcycle title on Sunday with eliminations for all classes starting at 11 a.m. Times are local Las Vegas time -- Same as Pacific Time (PT) and subject to change at anytime.
