G Squared Motorsports: Good day for S&S-powered Buells at Vegas
LAS VEGAS (October 21, 2005) -- Five S&S-powered Buells finished in the top eight following the first day of qualifying for the Pro Stock Motorcycles at the fifth annual NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Chip Ellis and Matt Smith, aboard their G Squared-prepared and owned, S&S-powered Pro Stock Buells, ended Friday's qualifying in the No. 4 and No. 19 positions respectively.
Also, finishing in the top eight were the Buells of Ryan Schnitz (No. 1), Chris Rivas (No. 5), Matt Guidera (No. 6) and Tom Bradford (No. 8).
"At the start, Matt's (Smith) bike immediately made a strong turn toward the centerline on his first run and he lost an engine on his second pass. He was on a decent run that second pass but only made it to half-track before troubles set in on the run. Chip (Ellis) ran a good opening lap, but used up valuable time correcting a start that sent him toward the centerline strip in session two. All-in-all not the best of days for our two bikes," said George Smith, who, along with George Smith own and operate G Squared Motorsports.
"The good news is that five Buells with S&S power plants are running pretty strong and made the top eight today. Now we need to correct the problems with Matt's (Smith) Buell and see if he can work his way up in the field."
POINTS: Ellis, who rides the G Squared S&S Buell, entered today's qualifying for the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals, the 14th of 15 races on the season-long NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, No. 6 in the POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle point standings with 751 points, only 35 points out of the top five. Meanwhile, Smith, aboard the G2 Red line Oil/Skull Gear/Torco Race Fuels Buell, enters this event No. 12 in the point standings with 523 points.
