INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 23, 2007) -- Cruz Pedregon's Advance Auto Parts NHRA Nitro Funny Car team are enjoying a renewed sense of confidence, optimism and enthusiasm as they prepare for the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Oct. 25-28 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Pedregon, the 1992 NHRA Nitro Funny Car World Champion, knows how to win- a feat he accomplished at this track in 2006. Now, with a car as consistent as he's seen since his Championship year, he feels his Advance Auto Parts team is on the verge of a trip to the Winner's Circle.
"I'm excited for the whole team," said Pedregon, a 23-time National Event winner "I love racing in Las Vegas. This will be a tough race, but our team is gelling thanks to Rahn [Tobler, crew chief].He has really brought a breath of fresh air to our team. Our car has a legitimate shot at winning, which is exciting for the fans and our sponsors like Advance Auto Parts, Q, Snap-On and Great Stuff. They recognize that consistency is the key to success in drag racing- especially in the Funny Car division and they are seeing consistent performance from our car."
Cruz Pedregon's teammate and brother, Tony Pedregon returned from a successful test session at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Oct. 17-18.Cruz Pedregon, with a car set up identically to his brother's, stands to benefit from data gathered in testing.
"Rahn and Dickie [Venables, crew chief] have been talking about the performance of Tony's car in testing last week," Pedregon said. "Our car is nearly identical to Tony's, so we will benefit from this test. If there is any way we can help Tony by knocking off some of the competition, then that's what we'll do."
