ANTRON BROWN QUALIFIES EIGHTH FRIDAY AT LAS VEGAS

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 29, 2010) - Antron Brown drove his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the provisional No. 8 qualifying position Friday evening at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Brown, who enters the penultimate race on the 2010 NHRA schedule ranked seventh in the Countdown to 1 standings, smoked the tires on his opening pass at the 10th annual Las Vegas NHRA Nationals. The Matco Tools/U.S. Army car spun the tires mid-track and slowed to a pass of 5.712 seconds at 117.39 mph to finish 16th in the order after the first of four qualifying sessions. On Friday's second pass, Brown used a tune-up from crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald to power the bright blue Matco Tools rail to a performance of 3.911 at 311.27 to finish in the provisional No. 8 qualifying position. Brown qualified third (3.834-seconds) at the fall Las Vegas race last October.

"We were just too aggressive on the opening pass, so we had to tip-toe a little bit on the night run with so many cars here this weekend," Brown said. "I think there are more Top Fuel cars here than at Indy, it's a loaded field, so it'll be tough to just make the show. We made a solid pass and we're in and now we can go after it on Saturday, and it'll be cooler too."
