Anderson and Vegas General Construction Team heads home for Summitracing.com Nationals.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Greg Anderson, driver of the Vegas General Construction Pontiac Grand Am, considers the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway his home racetrack. Not because he lives in Las Vegas, but because his team owner (Ken Black) and his sponsors call this their home.
On the eve of the 4th annual Summitracing.com Nationals, Anderson talks about his goals for this race.
"This is a big race for this Vegas General Construction team," said NHRA Pro Stock points leader Greg Anderson. "It is a big race not only because this is Ken's (team owner and sponsor Ken Black) home town, but because we have put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make this one of our best races of the year.
"Las Vegas has been a sore spot for this team since last fall. We DNQ'ed at the fall Las Vegas race. That DNQ hurt in many different ways. It hurt us in the points, hurt our confidence, and hurt our pride. We have had all winter to think about what we did wrong and what we need to do different this year. We would like to do well here this weekend to make-up for that debacle.
"To get ready for this race it has been work, work, and more work around here. We are definitely doing our homework preparing for this race. We have spent a lot of time here in the shop working on our engine program, and just as much time away form the shop testing.
"Last week we went up to Bristol to test. We chose Bristol because it is an altitude track. It should be close to what we will see in Las Vegas this weekend. We found a little horsepower in the motor shop, and I think we are right on schedule.
"Qualifying is very important, but this weekend we have set goals to go way beyond just qualifying. We want to prove to ourselves that last fall was a fluke. More importantly, what we would really like to do is qualify Number 1 and win this race to thank our sponsors: Vegas General Construction, Fairway Chevrolet, and Pontiac.
"This is our home race, and Ken goes the extra mile to make this race team happen. This weekend we are going to try to go the extra mile and win our home race to pay our sponsors back for everything they do for us all year long."
Qualifying at the 4th annual Summitracing.com Nationals in Las Vegas, Nev. will begin on Friday April 4, and continue on Saturday April 5. Eliminations will take place on Sunday April 6 at 11:00 AM PST.
