SCELZI SNARES NO. 6 IN VEGAS QUALIFYING

LAS VEGAS (April 14, 2007) - Gary Scelzi powered the Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car to the No. 6 qualifying position for the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, recording his quickest pass, 4.772 seconds at 325.61 mph, in Friday night's session.

His other laps were a 4.941/308.85, a 10.205/76.79, and finally a 4.803/324.98 in the last attempt.

"Not exactly what we were looking for on this last session, but three out of four's not bad," said the four-time NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series world champion (three in Top Fuel, one in Funny Car). "Not many cars have done that. So, we got our good friend Jim Head (in the first round). We'll go up there and shoot our shot tomorrow and see what the weather brings. It's supposed to be cooler and overcast, so the track should be pretty decent.

"I don't know what's going on with the race track," Scelzi added, critical of the condition of the track surface. "The track prep is pretty inconsistent. Or I should say, consistently bad. We'll just go up there and Zip (crew chief Mike Neff) will read the track, I'll do the best that I can do, and we'll see if we can't get a blue hat."
