Del Worsham is 10th in the NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car point standings; he trails ninth place Bob Tasca III by 28 points, eighth place Robert Hight by 41 points, and he trails the two drivers tied for sixth place by 43 points.
Worsham has been a solid qualifier so far this season. In the season's first five races, he has qualified second and third, 14th, fifth and seventh respectively. Worsham's average qualifying position is 6.20.
Worsham was the No. 7 qualifier last weekend at Houston Raceway Park. He defeated Bob Tasca III and Ashley Force Hood before losing to Jeff Arend in the semifinals. Worsham is still seeking his first win of the season; he won three races last year visiting victory circle in Madison, Ill., Bristol, Tenn. and Richmond, Va.
One year ago at this event in Las Vegas, Worsham was the No. 16 qualifier and lost to Tony Pedregon in the first round of eliminations. Worsham has never won at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Worsham has 25 wins in his Funny Car career; he is seventh on the NHRA's all-time Funny Car wins list trailing sixth place by just one win.
Worsham prior to Las Vegas:
"Last weekend's race in Texas was another good step for our Al-Anabi Racing Toyota. Getting to the semifinals for the first time this season was nice; it was great to win some rounds. We are still in 10th place in points, but we are much closer to ninth place than we were when we got to Houston so that's a positive move.
"After Houston and the results we had, I feel good. We learned some things last weekend that will be really beneficial moving forward. So going to Las Vegas this weekend, we feel good about building on the progress we made last weekend. I hope that means we can challenge for the win this weekend and make a move in the point standings. The Funny Car points are tight already so anyone in the second five in points can make a big move in the standings. Everyone on our Al-Anabi team will do everything we can to keep working our way back to the winner's circle."
