SKULL GEAR Chevy Cobalt Driver Starts Eighth at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, April 8, 2006 -- Crew chief Terry Adams came to this city made famous by gambling and took a chance of his own before qualifying began for Sunday's SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speeway.

"We made a bunch of changes," he said of the SKULL GEAR Chevy Cobalt. "Testing is tough to do at an NHRA national event but we had no choice because we had two races back-to-back."

Adams' calls worked, enabling Dave Connolly to drive the Chevy Cobalt to an eighth-place qualifying berth with a best run of 6.804 seconds at 202.70 mph. It marked his first top-half start in the five-race old 2006 POWERade Series campaign. He races V. Gaines (9th, 6.810 at 203.09) in the opening round.

"This is the best we've been this year," said Connolly. "It was a good accomplishment. There are no easy spots. We have lane choice and that should pay dividends.
