Coughlin Barely Nudges Connolly Out of Top Spot In First Day Pro Stock Qualifying at Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2007 -- Bravo! Brands Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BRVO): Jeg Coughlin and Dave Connolly have been working hard this season, attempting to get their Pro Chevy Cobalts to run as close to the same as possible. They succeeded in Friday's second qualifying session of the SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
First it was Connolly, whose Torco Racing Fuels/Slammers Ultimate Milk Cobalt produced an elapsed time of 6.733 seconds at 203.49 mph. On the next run, Coughlin's Slammers Ultimate Milk Cobalt also ran 6.733 seconds, but he took the provisional No. 1 qualifying spot with a faster speed, 204.79 mph. This is the third consecutive race where the Delaware, Ohio-based driver has led the qualifiers after two runs.
"Our second session was run later than what we anticipated and our cars like it when the track gets a little cooler. The track was just outstanding and Tommy Utt, Roy Simmons and Victor Cagnazzi, our crew chiefs at Cagnazzi Racing, did an outstanding job for both Dave's car and my car. That's a real tribute to everyone at the shop."
Two more runs are on the docket Saturday to see if Coughlin can maintain his hold on first place going into Sunday's eliminations.
"This is a whole team effort," added Connolly, of Elyria, Ohio. "We felt we had two good cars and we believed we had every chance of making them run identically. We spent a lot of time testing at Farmington (N.C.) and learned a lot. We learned more about what was wrong with our cars and we were able to get a handle on it."
They are third and fourth in NHRA POWERade Series points, Connolly with 252 and Coughlin with 217.
"We aren't counting anything yet," said Coughlin. "We'll have to do our homework and prepare for our third qualifying run."
