Mopar®'s Allen Johnson Fights Clutch Gremlins in Day 1 Qualifying

Las Vegas, Nev. (April 3, 2009) -- Team Mopar® NHRA Full Throttle Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson's battle with a faulty clutch was just part of a very bizarre first day of qualifying for the Summitracing.com NHRA Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Rain showers, a timing and scoring malfunction and 50+mph winds late were enough to keep the NHRA stars to just one qualifying session throughout a day of extended delays.

The Mopar/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T driver sits No. 9 after a pass of 6.783/202.97 in the only qualifying session Friday afternoon.

"We missed on the clutch a little bit," said Johnson. "I stayed in it, but it wasn't the pass we wanted. We'll have a lot more for them tomorrow."

Johnson's Mopar HEMI-powered partner, Johnny Gray, was a tick better with a pass of 6.764/203.43 and currently sits eighth. Larry Morgan led the Mopar HEMI-powered contingent of Dodge's in seventh with a pass of 6.764/203.83.

The team's will hope for better weather and the chance at two more qualifying sessions on Saturday at THE STRIP at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before final eliminations in the 10th annual event on Sunday.
