Dixon Continues '04 Preparation at National Time Trials

CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 7, 2004) -- Two-time defending NHRA POWERade Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon and his Miller Lite team continued its preparation for the 2004 NHRA season-opener Saturday during the National Time Trials at Firebird International Raceway near Phoenix.

Dixon, who captured his first career victory at Firebird Raceway during his rookie season in 1995, made two passes in his Miller Lite dragster on Saturday following nine days of testing near Houston in late January. Dixon's rail recorded a best elapsed time of 4.616 seconds at 287.29 mph on Saturday's second test pass.

"I think we're going along fine as far as our progress goes," Dixon said. "We got progressively further down the race track compared to what we did yesterday. I'm happy with what we're doing right now, so we'll just try and continue that pace and momentum tomorrow and early next week."

Dixon, who looks to become only the second Top Fuel driver to win three consecutive NHRA championships, recorded 60-foot times of .846-seconds and .848-seconds on Saturday.

The Miller Lite team will continue to prepare for the 2004 NHRA season kickoff at Pomona Raceway on Sunday at F.I.R.
