Motel 6 and Kalitta Motorsports Announce Associate Sponsorship on "Aussie Dave" Grubnic's Top Fuel Dragster
Ypsilanti, Mich., July 6, 2004 - Motel 6, one the nation's most-recognized lodging companies, and Kalitta Motorsports, the NHRA's only three-car Top Fuel drag racing team, announce the Motel 6 associate sponsorship program for the Top Fuel dragster driven by "Aussie Dave" Grubnic.
Motel 6 decals will be displayed on the sides of Grubnic's 7,000+ horsepower, nitro-fueled Zantrex-3 dragster for the remainder of the 23-event NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Kalitta Motorsports, based in Ypsilanti, Mich., is owned and operated by drag racing icon Connie "the Bounty Hunter" Kalitta.
"Being involved with a legend like Connie Kalitta as a spectator and now as a sponsor is an honor," said Eric Studer, sr. vice-president of Marketing Services for Motel 6. "This is another indication of Motel 6's commitment to NHRA drag racing by being an associate sponsor on the Dave Grubnic's Top Fuel car. We believe that partnering with Kalitta Motorsports will be a great marketing opportunity for all involved."
Accor Economy Lodging (Motel 6) is already heavily involved with the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) including the Motel 6 Vision giant screen video display at NHRA national events and the Motel 6 'Who Got the Light' program that awards a $1,000 prize to the individual Top Fuel, Funny Car or Pro Stock competitor who wins a round of eliminations with the closest margin of victory compared to other Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock elimination rounds.
"Motel 6 is a fantastic addition to our team," said David Grubnic. "Their commitment to NHRA has already been proven, and it's always great to see companies the caliber of Motel 6 continuing to increase their involvement to help promote our exciting sport."
Native Australian Grubnic, 42, is in his second season behind the wheel of a Team Kalitta race car. The fan-favorite from Brisbane, Australia, has been driving nitro rails in the United States since 1995. He won his first NHRA national event in Topeka, Kans., May 29, 2005. He also won the $100,000 Budweiser Shootout Top Fuel special event last fall in Las Vegas.
