DIXON DRIVES MILLER LITE RAIL TO NO. 4 POSITION FRIDAY AT ROUTE 66

JOLIET, Ill. (June 10, 2005) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion (2002-03) Larry Dixon made two consistent passes behind the wheel of his Miller Lite dragster Friday at Route 66 Raceway, finishing in the provisional No. 4 qualifying spot with an elapsed time of 4.533 seconds.

Dixon, who entered the eighth annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals in third position in the Top Fuel standings, opened the day by powering to the second quickest run of the opening qualifying session when he used a tune-up from crew chief Dick LaHaie to record at pass of 4.571 seconds at 323.12 mph. Dixon and the Miller Lite/Ameriquest crew improved under the Route 66 Raceway lights late Friday evening when the 36-time NHRA winner blistered the track to a run of 4.533 at 327.43 to finish fourth in the dragster order.

"We made two good runs down the track today," Dixon said. "We ran good in both sessions, so that was nice. The car is getting to the point where they can make adjustments to the tune-up. Even though we ran really late on Friday night, it was still hot out, so it was a nice run."

Dixon and the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil team will shoot for their second low qualifying award of the season when Top Fuel qualifying resumes with sessions scheduled for 12:30 and 4 p.m. (CT).
