White looking for win at hometown event.
JOLIET, Ill. - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Marc White enters this weekend's Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Route 66 Raceway just outside of Chicago with not only the obvious goal of winning, but also wanting to make a strong performance in front of his hometown fans. White, who lives just miles from the track in Glendale Heights, Ill., enters this weekend's resumption of the rained out event in the No. 1 position with a 5.648 second elapsed time.
While White admits he wants to do well for his Chicagoland fans, maintaining his Division 3 points lead is the most important goal of the weekend. White currently leads Division 3 points, and is seventh nationally.
"We just need to keep going rounds," said White. "You always try a little harder at your hometown track, but it's really important we go more rounds than Chucky [Cheeseman] and the rest of the Division 3 guys. Chucky beat us out for the Division Championship the last two years, we want to make this year our year."
With much warmer conditions in store for this weekend than the original weekend, White predicts performance numbers to be much slower.
"It's a good bit warmer than it was," stated White. "Joliet is still a good track, so it shouldn't be too bad. I think we have a pretty decent hot weather tune-up, so we'll just have to see how it goes."
Qualifying will resume on Saturday, with final eliminations on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
