Tony Pedregon Looks to Repeat Chicago History
Quaker State Racing Likes Potential for Cooler Weather

JOLIET, Ill. (Sept. 30, 2004) -- Tony Pedregon would like to repeat a little history this weekend. Recent history that is, as his Quaker State Racing Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car blistered the Route 66 Raceway quarter mile during the NHRA's last visit to this speed palace.

This weekend's NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals could rewrite the record books Pedregon battered this past May with his 4.716-second elapsed time at 331.28 mph blast. That run, which still stands as the second quickest and second fastest times ever captured within NHRA Funny Car competition, will be challenged as cooler fall weather conditions are expected make there way to the Chicagoland area.

According to Pedregon, when you combine the team's performance with what they learned from that event, the potential is there to perform well.

"Chicago is a very good track," said Pedregon, who was also the top qualifier during NHRA first trip to Route 66 this year. "One of the things that makes it exciting for us is we have information on that track. And a little more information certainly won't hurt. I think some of the things we learned over last weekend is also going to help us."

Another bit of history the California resident would like to repeat is his victory at last year's CARQUEST Nationals. He defeated Phil Burkart in the final with a stout 4.787-second elapsed time. It was one of last year's defining moments in the chase for the 2003 NHRA Funny Car championship, as Pedregon's victory paved the way to a title.

QUAKER STATE RACING NOTEBOOK:

STREAKER: Quaker State Racing Monte Carlo Funny Car driver Tony Pedregon is looking to extend his streak of top-eight qualifying efforts. Since his second-place run at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., he has recorded five straight, top half of the field qualifiers.

Since the Bristol (Tenn.) Dragway NHRA National Event last May, Pedregon has only qualified outside the top eight on two occasions.
