DIXON FINISHES SIXTH FRIDAY AT JOLIET WITH 4.511-SECOND RUN

JOLIET, Ill. (Sept. 30, 2005) - Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon Friday drove his Miller Lite dragster to two consistent low 4.5-second passes Friday at Route 66 Raceway as the veteran Top Fuel racer qualified sixth with a 4.511-second pass to open qualifying at the Ameriquest Mortgage Co. Nationals.

Dixon, who won the spring Joliet race in 2002, began qualifying at the record-setting drag strip by powering the Miller Lite/Ameriquest rail to a performance of 4.511 seconds at 326.63 mph to finish second following the first of four scheduled qualifying sessions. The 38-time NHRA winner then backed up his opening run by driving to a run of 4.524 at 321.73 to finish sixth in the 16-car order with two qualifying sessions remaining.

"The first run was a great run," Dixon said. "Considering we didn't qualify here last year, it was nice to make a solid run down the track and get our car qualified. It carried the front end for a long time on that run and the car went straight. It made a good run and we were second quick of the session. We were sixth quick of the second session. The car dropped a hole (cylinder) down track."

Dixon and the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil team aim to improve upon their qualifying position when Top Fuel qualifying resumes with sessions scheduled for 1 and 4 p.m. (CT) Saturday at the record-setting Chicagoland drag strip.
